Greenfield Crystal Production Facility – Portland, Oregon
Ultra-High Purity Gas Delivery System for Greenfield Crystal-Production Facility
IS International was contracted to provide the control system for a greenfield plant using thin-film deposition techniques in order to grow extremely high-value crystals. The project was located in Portland, Oregon.
The UHP Gas Delivery System included six types of pressurized and liquid gases, including hydrogen, methane, and oxygen. The project also included system interfaced laboratory-grade components alongside industrial process controls and instrumentation.
The system is controlled by a Siemens S7-1500-series PLC with a WinCC HMI. Most of the sensors are interfaced using ProfiNet, Modbus, DeviceNET communications. A total of 41 high-precision flow meters and/or flow controllers, 12 purifiers, 4 gas chromatographs, and other vendor-supplied equipment are linked in this manner. Data is sent to the plant control room via BACNet and SQL Server communications links.
IS provided instrumentation selection and specification services, collaborated on the design of the P&IDs, and developed the electrical installations and signage for the Class I Div. 1 and 2 areas, handling both Group B and D gasses.
IS designed and fabricated the required panels, procured the instrumentation and supported the field installation, commissioning and start-up.
